Played two rounds over the last 2 days. Just played the New Course as the Old Course closed for maintenance. The place was fantastic. Even with all the recent rain, it was nicely dry underfoot. Clubhouse very welcoming and all the staff were superb. Highly recommended. We will definitely be back.

Bernard Hanrahan
Fantastic course beautifully presented, fairways and greens exceptional and all the staff from the pro shop and bar were very welcoming. A real treasure in the heart of Meath and definitely a real test of your golf game. Beautiful

Old course was in decent nick albeit a lot of unrepaired plug marks on the greens. Clubhouse & food were excellent. Well done Headfort GC!

With the Championship Course committed to the Challenge Tour event, the Old Course is reserved exclusively for members only from Monday 24th July for one week. This will allow members to enjoy casual golf throughout the week.

The Management Committee has decided that due to restrictions required to accommodate the practice range for the Tour event, no member competitions will take place that week.

As you can see from the photograph, Gerry, Donie and their team have done tremendous work in restoring this old building to its former glory and we would like to acknowledge both Gerry and Donie along with their helpers for the great work they have done so far.

In order to put the finishing touches to the site, Gerry and Donie would appreciate the assistance of a few more volunteers. If interested, you can contact Gerry on 087 9883437 and Donie on 087 9883456.

Gardening Group News

I’m sure that you’ve all noticed the beautiful tubs of flowers around the Clubhouse area and the gardening works that have been carried out around a number of tee boxes on the Old Course. A big thank you goes out for all your hard work to the dedicated and green-fingered Headfort Gardening Group headed up by Mary Bird.

Also, a word of thanks to club member, Richard Greehy, who lovingly tends to the beautiful roses that are now in full bloom along the wall in the car park area.

The Grass Hut (Hermit’s Hut)

This rather interesting structure came to our attention in May 2021. Situated in the trees on the dogleg of the second hole on the Championship Course, it is an old stone hut with lots of original features and detailing, still intact. It was really suited to a sympathetic restoration.

We applied for a Heritage Grant in July 2021, but regrettably we were not awarded funding for the restoration.

It was decided to proceed with restoration work on a voluntary basis with some assistance from greenkeeping staff and Aidan Blayney.

The Hut is approximately 12ft x 10ft, in a single room set up with fireplace and chimney.

The project is nearing completion and the work has recently been acknowledged by Club Chairperson Jacqueline McCormack – “the volunteer work will give the hut another life in the
environs of Headfort”

To help us complete the project, volunteer assistance would be very welcome. If interested please contact Gerry Kelly 0879883437 or Donie Maguire 0879883456.

Members, are you up for the Irish Challenge?

Headfort Golf Club and the European Challenge Tour are looking to recruit a team of volunteers from within the club’s membership to help deliver a world-class event from July 24th to 30th.

It’s easy to get involved and there are a range of different tasks which can be undertaken as a volunteer. Not only will you be able to get up-close to the stars of the future, but you will also be part of what is sure to be a significant event in the club’s history.

To encourage members to volunteer, we have secured some superb giveaways and promotional items from the Tour – along with some of our own goodies.

VOLUNTEER BENEFITS

Each volunteer that completes two or more shifts over the course of the week will receive an Irish Challenge hat.

If a volunteer completes three or more shifts, they will also get an Irish Challenge Polo Shirt and if a volunteer completes four or more shifts, they will complete their goodie bag with a quarter-zip outer layer top.

Volunteers will receive a packed lunch and drink each day and an invitation to mingle with players and officials at a special social event during the week-long event.

BONUS! For each shift a volunteer completes, they will receive one entry into a draw which will take place at the end of the week – and the winner-takes-it-all prizes are:

4 x One Day Passes for The Irish Open at the K Club in September
€200 Food and Beverage Credit for Headfort Golf Club
6 x Guest Green Fee Vouchers for Friends and Family

In addition, the club are seeking a small pool of volunteers to assist with some painting around the car park and clubhouse over the next six weeks – so please get in touch if you are in a position to help.

To express an interest in volunteering for the event, please email [email protected] with your details and we will be in touch with more information.

Thank you and looking forward to your support.

Jacqueline McCormack,
Chairperson.
